Douglas Grimes -- Publications
Research Topics:
I spent four years doing research in educational technologies,
mostly for middle school instruction. I have pursued several promissing technologies for in-school and out-of-school learning:
- Computer learning environments: I co-authored three grant proposals for a
series of science learning games called "SciThink."
- One-to-one laptop computing: I co-authored an evaluation of one-to-one
laptop program in three culturally diverse schools, supported by extensive
statistical analysis and graphs.
- Artificial intelligence (AI) in education: My dissertation research in
classroom use of automated writing evaluation indicates that AI can either
enhance or undermine constructivist pedagogy, depending on how it is implemented.
- Educational visualization: My first two journal publications concerned a
high-tech visualization environment for engineering and computer graphics education.
